The 480 was originally intended for sale in the U.S. and Canada, and was properly federalized (it has U.S.-spec bumpers), but poor exchange rates meant that distribution never materialized.
Neither the 340/360 or 440/460 were sold new in the U.S. or Canada.

I knew the story about the 480, just wasn’t thinking properly, haha.
I’ve found out that the 440/460’s successor, the S40, was sold in the US and Canada, and quite a few seem to still be around here in Toronto. That probably made it the most successful Dutch built car in North America ever. Although now that might change, as the new Countryman, some 3 door, and all convertible Minis, as well as some BMW X1s, are also built in the Netherlands (same factory as the Volvos used to be made).
